Anyone who has been delighted by the rise of the e-scooters as much as we were, has certainly heard about the E-Twow (pronounced as “E2”). One of their most popular electric kick scooters, S2 Booster, that has been launched nearly four years ago, was packed with features that many current models do not have, like the never-flat honeycomb tires, a quick-folding mechanism, regenerative braking.

In 2017, the E-Twow won a gold medal for the best invention at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva for the concept of portable and foldable electric scooter as an ideal transportation solution for urban environments. But how does the new and improved 2020 E-Twow GT compare to all other high-tech portable urban scooters?

The 2020 E-Twow GT Electric Scooter

Clearly, expectations were high for the all new E-Twow GT. But without a doubt, this little scooter rises up to the expectations. The build quality and the attention to details are worthy of a premium e-scooter, but it’s when you take it for a spin where its true colors shine through. The GT is a serious contender for the best commuting scooter out there.

There are a lot of things we absolutely loved about this scooter: speed, torque, suspension… There are couple of flaws, to be honest, but for us they are not a dealbreaker. Read our review to find out about all the things E-Twow GT has to offer.

Speed and Power

The E-Twow GT is powered by a new 700W brushless motor, and it can carry you as fast as 25 mph. It provides so much torque that it will propel you to 15 mph in 5 seconds. For safety reasons, you can only accelerate after giving the scooter a little push first. The acceleration is smooth and the scooter feels very stable even at higher speeds. As for climbing hills, no problem with climbing the steep slopes and it can even accelerate uphill on milder ones.

The GT equipped with an improved battery of 48V, 10.5 Ah with Samsung cells. In the ideal conditions it is supposed to deliver a range of up to 30 miles on a single charge. But if you only get half of that in real world conditions, it is still 15 miles, which is quite good.

Brakes and Safety

The breaking power is impressive, even though if it’s an e-brake. Regular disc brakes or hydraulic brakes are a golden standard, but 700 W of hub motor is quick to stop this light scooter. You should be cautious as the brake gets a bit weaker the lower your battery is, but that won’t be an issue as the scooter will slow down a bit anyway when the battery is low too.

We won’t go in details about the “Formula 1 KERS technology” implemented, but we will agree that this is the best regenerative braking we have seen on any electric scooter. It feels solid, breaks well and accelerates fast, so there is definitely some high-tech magic behind it.

It’s hard to make sense out of the emergency friction brake on the rear wheel though, especially at higher speeds and considering how inconvenient shifting your feet is while riding. You probably won’t be using it ever, but it’s there if you need it. Installing a mechanical disc brake on the rear wheel might be an option if you are a bit of a safety freak

This scooter has airless tires, which means that you do not have to worry about flat tires and air pressure. They don’t offer better feel compared to air-filled tires, but they are a winner in terms of convenience. The suspension makes up for it.

The E-Twow GT has a front spring suspension hidden behind that stylish ribbed rubber, and a rear one hidden in the frame. Of, course, this is not a level of suspension you can find on Dualtron or Wolf Warrior or some of the others all-terrain two-wheelers, but it certainly does the job of cushioning the ride over bumps and cracks in the pavement.

The 3-point folding mechanism combined with collapsible handlebars makes GT scooter one of the most compact out there. It feels natural, and folds in a way that makes carrying it up or down stairs a breeze. It is very light too, weighing around 27 lbs, so it is lightweight enough to be considered portable.

Additional Features

The adjustable front stem is something you don’t see on most electric scooters. However, the GT has it, which is great news for taller riders.

The LCD Screen is very nice addition too, it’s fully colored and pretty to look at. At higher speed, you’ll appreciate how quick and easy it is to look at due to the higher color contrast.

One of the things that we didn’t like is the fact that there is no kickstand. There is no apparent reason for this, almost all other electric kick scooters have it, and this is one improvement we expect to see in the future.

Who is this scooter for?

ETwow GT is made for the urban commuter, designed to travel quickly, be folded quickly and be easily carried and stored anywhere you want, under an office desk or in the trunk of a car. We are never the ones to complain about the price of the electric scooter, as long as you get the quality you’ve paid for. And with GT you get that, and then some. It is a bit more expensive that some other folding scooters, like Xiaomi, Glion Dolly or Gotrax GLX, but performance-wise it knocks them all out of the park.

If you’re commuting to work or school, this is one of the best choices you can make for that amount of money; a solid, dependable scooter for adults that’s one of the lightest, most portable scooters on the market.
