Types of sit down electric scooter

Not all scooters with seat are equal, and one of the reasons why it’s so hard to explore the models that you can ride sitting down is that they are hard to find, and it mostly comes down to the models with detachable seat post. We have tried to make some kind of overview of all the available options to help you decide which type of sit-down scooter is the right for you.

Electric moped

Term “moped” was originally used to describe a small motorcycle with both the engine and pedals, while vehicles with an engine and step-through design and deck for the feet were labeled as “scooters”. When personal transportation went electric is where it all became complicated. Now, the term “electric scooter” indicates a form of personal transportation generally designed with a large deck in the center on which the rider stands. According to US state of California’s regulatory system for 2- and 3-wheeled vehicles, “motorized scooter” is a 2-wheeled vehicle with a floorboard designed to be stood upon while operating.

But what about those Vespa-like scooters that look just like gas-powered motor scooters, but have an electric drive instead, designed for riding sitting down. To separate them from standing electric scooters, we have put them all under the “electric moped” category, whether they have pedals or not.

Stand up electric scooter with add-on seat

This is your classic electric scooter, designed for riding standing up, with an option to mount a seat to the deck. Without going into a debate whether it makes sense to put a seat on a standing scooter, we explore the options for those who prefer to ride seated. In almost all cases you have to buy the seat separately, so make sure to count the price of the seat in the total cost.

Mini personal transportation devices

For those that want the mean of transportation with the smallest footprint so it can be stored anywhere, this is the kind of electric scooter you need. These scooters are compact, lightweight and designed mostly for flat roads, urban settings and short city commutes.

Electric Scooter with Seat for Adults – Top Picks

Razor EcoSmart Metro HD

The ever-popular Razor EcoSmart Metro has been around for ages, and now it is better than ever with the new EcoSmart Metro HD model. Equipped with 350W hub motor it is more powerful, quieter and easier to maintain.

The top speed of 15.5 mph is more than enough for cruising around, which is the main purpose of this scooter. Unlike the previous version, this one has a zero-start feature, which means you can twist the throttle and get going, no need to push it up to speed. Wide bamboo deck is durable and comfortable, and it looks really nice.

This scooter is not a good hill climber. The big wheels and 72 pounds scooter weight (plus the rider) are too much for the 36V 350W motor. But riding on the flat ground feels very comfortable and stable. Large pneumatic 16” wheels provide good grip and smooth ride over uneven terrain. The padded seat is very comfortable as well.

This scooter still uses SLA batteries, which are abandoned by almost all scooter manufacturers, but it is what keeps the price of the scooter so low. You can invest few extra hundreds to get good lithium battery upgrade to extend the range and boost the overall performance.

It comes with a basket that can hold few trinkets, but no more than 10lbs. There is a rear fender, but no front fender, unfortunately. This version comes with black frame, which looks nice, but we preferred the white one on a previous model.

Overall, if you are looking for a cheap, comfortable, cruiser-style, charming electric scooter, look no further, Razor EcoSmart Metro HD is the one for you.

EMOVE Cruiser + Seat

EMOVE Cruser has all the potential to become one of the best-selling electric scooters. It perfectly fills the gap between cheap lightweight scooters and speed demons that run at several thousand dollars. EMOVE Cruiser is compact enough to be a good urban commuter, but robust enough to take on rough terrain and long distance travel. What sets this scooter apart is its amazing range of up to 62 miles on single charge, thanks to the huge 52V 30Ah LG battery.

The Cruises does not fall behind in other aspects either. With a single motor that peaks at 1600W the top speed is solid 25mph, but don’t expect the insane acceleration like with some other scooters. It does pick up the speed fairly quickly, it just doesn’t give that “fired from the slingshot” feeling.

Everything on this scooter is well-made, the frame is made of aluminum and all the rubber and plastic details are high quality. You can even choose between a thumb and a twist throttle, to make it perfectly suit your riding style. We have covered this amazing scooter in details in the Long Range electric scooter guide, so we suggest you check that out to learn all the amazing details.

And the last, but certainly not the least important reason we wholeheartedly recommend this scooter is that it comes with an unmatched customer support provided by Voro Motors. Besides the illustrated manual that is written in good English, it comes with 1 year warranty and all the support that you need, with the live chat open 24/7 at their website.

Segway Ninebot Max with Folding Seat Post

Ninebot Max is a fairly small scooter, but it is incredibly powerful. With the 350W motor it can go to speed up to 18mph, and holds its speed nicely even when it’s pulling up hills. The new Ninebot Max G30 by Segway is the king of the range in its price bracket. The 551Wh battery provides maximum range of 40 miles.

This is the second generation of one of the best-selling electric scooters of all time. The differences between the first and second generation are not huge, the first generation experiences a loss of speed when the battery drops below 80% and for the second gen the top speed remains constant even when the battery drops below 80% but with a little less torque.

The build quality of this scooter is apparent in every detail, from tucked away cables, to tight folding mechanism, the choice of materials and technology used. A huge plus is a fact that the seat post is designed so it can fold down, which means you don’t have to take the seat off if you need to fold down the scooter. This makes the Ninebot Max G30 one of the rare folding electric scooters with seat.

The handlebars are wider that on average lightweight scooters, adding to the overall stability at top speed. The cockpit display will not give you that much data, but there is an excellent app that will provide all the information about your scooter and let you tweak the settings.

The secret is in combination of unique production process and using light, yet robust materials, finished with a distinctive aesthetic that the INOKIM brand is recognized for.

Powered by a 350W motor mounted in the rear wheel, the speed maxes out at 21 miles per hour. The high efficiency 36V 10.4Ah LG battery lasts up to 20 miles on a single charge. The front and rear drum brakes deliver plenty of stopping power, so this scooter has one of the shortest stopping distances of among scooters with 8.5” wheels.

The LED screen is nicely integrated with the handlebar, and shows battery power, speed, and range. It is also used to pick a gear, and there are 3. The Light 2 weighs about 30 lbs, and it is quick and easy to fold. It comes in 5 different colors.

Thanks to its distinguished design, the INOKIM Light-2 looks cool even with the seat attached. All the parts are custom designed, fitting in like pieces of a puzzle, ensuring that this scooter can withstand a lot, despite its lightweight and slender appearance.

eDrift ES295 Two-Person Scooter

With its fat tires, chopper-style handlebars and seat for two, this scooter looks like a motorcycle. You can tell from the design that the eDrift ES295 is not a speed demon, but a true cruiser-style scooter, made for enjoying the ride.

Powered by a quiet hub motor in the rear hub, with peak power of 2000W, it can reach the speed of 30mph. Dual disc brakes work like a charm, and with all the traction coming from the wide wheels you will be able to stop very quickly. You can choose from several different capacity battery packs, the strongest one being 30Ah. With this battery you can reach 50+ miles on a single charge, but then have to wait for 6 to 8 hours for it to be on full charge again.

The ES295 is one of the most comfortable scooters we have ever tested. The massive tires go over anything, and there is also a front fork suspension do smooth out the road. The seat is super soft and comfy as well, and it even has the backrest for the passenger. The weight limit is 350lbs, so it fits two average adults.

This scooters is completely road-ready, it comes with headlight, turn signals, rear-view mirrors, full mud guards and a horn. There is no brake light though, only a reflector. If you are looking for a sit down electric scooter that looks nothing like a mobility scooter, this is your ride.

EW-11 Sport Scooter

vespa style euro 2 person electric scooterThe eWheels EW 11 is a charming, vintage styled scooter with a classic paint job from the 50’s is sure to turn heads and bring back memories. It doesn’t skimp on performance either, with a top speed of 18 mph and an amazing drive range of 40 miles on a single charge. Fiido Q1S Mini Seated Scooter

Fiido Q1S is neither a bike, nor a scooter, and somehow manages to be both. With a range of 20 miles it is great for daily commute or a quick run to the market. There is a convenient center storage compartment that can carry sports equipment, books, or whatever you need to take with you, as well as a storage basket in the front.

With 250W motor, the top speed is only 15 mph, which might seem low compared to some other scooters, but it is in fact an adequate speed for bike lanes, shared use paths and local streets. Fiido can climb hills though, as geared motors are generally more efficient.

Fiido Q1S is very comfortable to ride. It is not too torquey, so it won’t launch you forward when you twist the throttle. Twist throttle does not take up the whole length of the handlebar grip, allowing you to adjust your grip and relax your hand. Front and rear mechanical disc brakes will make you stop almost on a dime.

This seated scooter is very comfortable to ride. Large 12” tires do their part in cushioning bumps on the road, and there is even dual suspension system which is very rarely seen on mini bikes. In addition to all this, the seat is nicely padded and very soft.

Overall build quality is very good, but there are few details that could be better. The display is nothing to brag about, as it only shows battery charge, and you can barely even see that. It comes with one headlight mounted over the front wheel, and no rear lights. The fenders are very flimsy and feel so cheap, this would probably be the first thing I would change on this scooter.

Bottom line: Fiido Q1S is fun, laid-back scooter, fitting for nearly anyone, from college students to seniors.

Uberscoot 1600W

Fastest All Terrain Electric ScooterJust like Razor, Uberscoot is one of those electric scooters that is still selling, despite many more advanced devices that have come after it. The truth is that, except lithium batteries, this heavy-duty scooter has everything else – powerful motor, impressive set of features, and large all-terrain tires. Most importantly, it comes with the seat, unlike other scooters for which you have to buy a seat separately.

Powered by 1600W brushless motor, Uberscoot can reach top speed of 30mph, upgraded with lithium batteries it can go up to 35mph. It has a chain drive, so it is not quiet at all. Swapping the 48V SLA batteries for Li-Ion battery pack will extend the maximum range from 10-12 miles to over 20.

The scooter itself is pretty well-built and it is a great deal. The list of features includes dual disc brakes, front and rear lights, front and rear shock suspension, sturdy folding mechanism. This is an awesome scooter for those that love tinkering with their rides, and there are some really useful Uberscoot maintenance videos all over YouTube.

Swagcycle Pro has a winning combination or sturdy robust frame and compact design. It is very easy to ride, and surprisingly powerful. Whether you’ll use it for short commutes or just for fun, you will appreciate how lightweight, yet how torquey it is.

The neat thing about Swagcycle PRO is that it doesn’t need a charger. There is a cord tucked away in the battery compartment that allows you to simply plug your bike into a wall socket and let it charge.

We really loved this little ride, it is super fun and very well built, and it costs under $400. Will you look ridiculous riding this little scooter-bike? Probably. Will you have so much fun that you won’t care about how you look? Absolutely yes!

Jetson Bolt

The technology has brought all kinds of alternate means of transportation, including a sleuth of little compact mini scooters and mini bikes like the Jetson Bolt. It is not everyone’s cup of tea, but those that have actually tested it can’t deny how much fun it is to ride.

Powered by a 250W electric motor it picks up the speed pretty quickly, all the way to 15mph top. The 36V 5,2Ah battery delivers the range of 15 miles, which is a decent travel distance for urban commuter.

Dualtron Thunder with Seat Kit

Ending it with a bang – Dualtron Thunder is not only the fastest electric scooter on this list, but it also has one of the most comfortable attachable seats as well. There is nothing to be said about powerful Dualtron scooters that hasn’t been said already. Everyone already knows that Dualtron Thunder is fast, has crazy acceleration, that it is sturdy, strong and well-built.

With top speed of over 50mph, and overall motorcycle worthy performance, it makes sense that some people might consider adding a seat. When those two motors of 5.4 kW combined power propel you forward at full force, having a seat that you can lean on to might come in handy.

The seat on Dualtron scooters is not just an accessory, it is actually a well-engineered seat kit that mounts firmly to the back of the frame, right in front of the rear wheel. It is a bit of a hassle to bolt it on, as some of the bolts are not easily accessible, and you may have to remove the deck cover, but once it is mounted it turns the scooter into a whole different kind of beast.

The seat kit is so good that it deserves its own review. It comes with an adjustable hydraulic seat post, cushioned saddle, seat mount and quick release to easily take the seat column off. The saddle itself has two shock absorbers, so comfort is definitely not an issue. The kit is compatible with other Dualtron scooters as well – Ultra, Dualtron 3, and Compact.

Why buy an electric scooter with seat?

The number one factor when looking for the best electric scooter for you is your own personal comfort. Do you enjoy buzzing down the streets while standing on the deck, or do you prefer to sit down while cruising? You need to make sure that your ride matches your route. How portable does it need to be? Do you need a scooter that you can easily fold and carry around when needed, or you are willing to sacrifice portability for superior performance? Here are some key factors you should consider to find what’s right for you.

1. Long distance rides

Anyone that has ever travelled long distances on an electric scooters know that once you have coverer 30 miles it can become really uncomfortable. But if you can take a sit and take strain off your knees and back, it becomes much more tolerable.

Problematic knees, back pain, chronic conditions or other issues can make riding the stand-up electric scooter unimaginable for some people. A seat solves this problem making electric scooter riding possible and even enjoyable for people with impairments or disabilities.

3. Staying stable at high speeds

Some scooters, like the Dualtron Thunder, can go over 50mph, which is really a knee-trembling speed when you are balancing on a not too wide deck. Seated Electric Scooter vs Electric Bike
