The launch of the Raine One has changed the game in the electric scooter industry. The Melbourne-based company, which is backed by Blackbird Ventures, launched their Kickstarter campaign in late 2019 and managed to hit their funding target in only 43 minutes – raising more money than any other electric vehicle Kickstarter in the platform’s history with over USD $400,000 raised. The success of the Raine One’s Kickstarter campaign shows just how excited people are about electric scooters.
For a long time, it was challenging to find an electric scooter on the market that had all the features you needed. Most scooter lovers often needed to compromise on certain features, which meant that a vast majority of owners were not entirely happy with their electric scooters.
The main reason why the Kickstarter campaign was so successful has a lot to do with the fact that the Raine One scooter is different from others on the market. The Raine One is the first electric scooter on the Australian market to have all the features that electric scooter lovers look for. From performance and style, to safety and comfort – this electric scooter has it all.
The Raine One has been meticulously designed from scratch, with all components, including the frame, suspension and much more, going through many iterations before the final version was confirmed. According to James Murphy, the CTO and co-founder of Raine, they wanted to shake up the scooter market, which is why they decided to build the Raine One from the ground up. “We wanted to take a brand new look at the scooter industry. There are many companies out there that just buy random parts from other suppliers that assemble the parts. Our goal was to design a scooter from the ground up, thinking about every element and how it interacts with other elements”.
The story behind Raine One
The Raine One electric scooter was created to solve a problem. The person behind this innovative scooter is James Murphy – a mechanical engineer and designer of the BajaBoard electric skateboard. James loved scooters from a young age, but Murphy was frustrated when he could not find an electric scooter on the market that had all the features that he was looking for. So, like a typical engineer, he decided to create one himself.
As he began developing the scooter, he joined forces with Marc Alexander and Michelle Mannering to help bring Raine Scooters to life.
